A leading Free and Open Source Software event, the GNOME Asia Summit, will be held in HCM City’s Quang Trung software Park from November 20-22.

More than 700 participants from 10 countries, including China, Cambodia, India, Singapore, Australia, Germany, France, the UK and the US, will take part.

The summit, organised by the GNOME Foundation and Quang Trung Software Park Development Company, aims to promote awareness of open-source software in Asia and the involvement of international and local businesses in community activities.

During the summit, 30 speakers from desktop distributors like Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora and OpenSolaris, as well as developers of GTK - based (a cross-platform widget tool-kit) mobile projects, such as Maemo or LXDE, will conduct presentations and workshops.

They will discuss the development and application of FOSS in business and education, and introduce the latest free and open-source software products.

The summit will feature demonstrations of new products that participants can sample.

Mario Behling, chair of the GNOME Asia Summit, said that FOSS and cost-efficient open development models were becoming more popular for both local and global businesses.

“Companies use this event to engage with the community and it is an excellent place to spot new talent,” he added./.
