Orbis International and the central province of Thua Thien-Hue signed an implementation agreement for the project ”Strengthening Paediatric Eye Care Services in the central region of Vietnam” on August 27.

Funded by Orbis International, the project will be carried out until June 30, 2018 with a total investment of 1.1 million USD.

The aim of the project is to reduce the prevalence of blindness and vision impairment in children. The project will improve access to paediatric eye care services at Hue Eye Hospital, and provide prophylactic retinopathy screening and treatment at Hue Central Hospital.

Concrete project activities include running practical training courses that will be taught by international experts, organising missions of Orbis’s flying eye hospital and online consultancy programmes. Short-term training courses will also be held for Hue Eye Hospital’s ophthalmologists to improve their skills in terms of communication, consultancy, management and medical research.

Founded in 1982, Orbis International is an international non-profit, non-governmental organisation dedicated to preserving eye sight worldwide. It implemented its first hospital-based programme in Vietnam in 1997.-VNA
