More than 60 outstanding women from ethnic minority and religious groups in the Central Highlands region were honoured at a ceremony in Buon Ma Thuot city, Dak Lak province on February 28.
The event was organised by the Steering Committee for the Central Highlands in conjunction with the Vietnam Women’s Union Central Committee on the threshold of Vietnamese Women’s Day (March 8).
Addressing the ceremony, Minister of Public Security, General Tran Dai Quang, praised the individuals in studying and following the moral example of President Ho Chi Minh as well as their contributions to the country over the past years.
Quang, who is also head of the committee, noted his hope that the awardees will exert greater efforts to contribute to the region’s socio-economic development, national security and defence.
He urged women’s associations at all levels in the Central Highlands to better popularise the Party’s guidelines, the State’s policies and laws, and localities’ tasks in economics, social affairs, culture, national security and building new-style rural areas in ethnic, religious, remote and border areas.
Over the past three years, women in the region have raised nearly 35 billion VND (1.64 million USD) to help their needy fellows run businesses and build houses.
The Central Highlands region covers the provinces of Kon Tum, Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Dak Nong and Lam Dong.-VNA
