Outstanding farmers honoured for contributions to agricultural growth

Hanoi (VNA) – A ceremony was held in Hanoi onOctober 13 to honour 63 farmers from localities across the nation, who havemade outstanding contributions to the country’s agricultural development.

Addressing the ceremony, Chairman of the Vietnam Farmers’Union (VNFU) Thao Xuan Sung said that the annual ceremony aims to recognisefarmers’ creativity and devotion to agricultural production, new-style ruralbuilding and national defence.

It is expected to help spread the model of new-generation farmersin the period of building a prosperous agricultural sector, rich farmers andcivilized and modern rural areas, he said.

Sung said that in 2020, despite complicated world anddomestic situation due to the COVID-19 pandemic, members of the union andfarmers across the country have actively engaged in emulation movements of theVNFU, through which many role models have been discovered.

According to the organisation board, the honoured farmerswere introduced by localities nationwide and carefully chosen through manyrounds.

At the ceremony, head of the Party Central Committee’sEconomic Commission Nguyen Van Binh, VNFU Chairman Thao Xuan Sung and leadersof ministries and sectors presented the certificates of merit to the honouredfarmers./.

Nearly 9,000 blood units collected at red spring festival

First launched in 2008 to address post-Tet blood shortages, the festival expanded nationwide in 2010 under the direction of the National Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation Campaign. Over 17 editions, the festival has attracted hundreds of thousands of donors across the nation, with the Hanoi event – hosted by the institute – collecting nearly 120,000 blood units.
