Binh Dinh (VNA) – The Quy Nhon International Outdoor Lifestyle Fair (Q-FAIR 2025) opened in Quy Nhon city of central Binh Dinh province on March 6, drawing over 100 wood businesses.

Jointly organised by the Binh Dinh provincial People’s Committee, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, the annual event has become a key trade and export promotion platform of Vietnam’s wood industry.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Bui Quang Hung, Deputy Director of the Trade Promotion Agency under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, highlighted Vietnam’s position as the world’s top wood exporter and the second largest in Asia, with last year's export revenue estimated at over 16 billion USD, a 20% increase from 2023.

He noted the growing global demand for sustainable, eco-friendly outdoor furniture and the opportunities provided by new-generation free trade agreements like the EU – Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), and the Vietnam – UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).

Despite these opportunities, the industry faces challenges such as stricter regulations on timber traceability, carbon emissions, and social responsibility in key markets like the US, the EU, and Japan. With about 85% of raw materials imported, there’s an urgent need to develop sustainable local material sources. Rising transportation costs and competition from major exporting countries such as China, Malaysia, and Indonesia further add pressure on Vietnamese businesses, he pointed out.

Hung warned of potential trade defence measures from the US, including anti-dumping, anti-subsidy, and anti-circumvention investigations, urging Vietnamese businesses to prove the legal origin and added value of their products to avoid adverse duties, improve the production capacity, boost digital transformation and e-commerce, and further tap into the domestic market.

Q-FAIR 2025 runs from March 6 to 9, featuring over 1,000 booths across 9,000 square metres. It showcases a wide range of outdoor lifestyle products, divided into five main areas: wooden furniture, raw materials and accessories, wooden houses, beachside wooden homes and outdoor furniture, and wood processing machinery.

Nguyen Tuan Thanh, Vice Chairman of the Binh Dinh People’s Committee, emphasised the expo’s role in promoting the industry’s growth potential in the international market and enhancing Binh Dinh’s image as a dynamic and promising destination. He reaffirmed the province’s commitment to supporting businesses and creating optimal conditions for their investment and operations.

In 2024, Binh Dinh’s industrial sector saw remarkable growth, with its industrial production index rising by 10% from 2023, the highest since 2010. Export revenue reached 1.7 billion USD, with the wood industry contributing 1 billion USD, increasing 15% year on year and accounting for 62% of the province’s total exports.

With over 320 wood processing enterprises and a value chain approach from afforestation to processing and product distribution, Binh Dinh is poised to become a regional hub for high-tech wood processing./.
