Over 1.18 million COVID-19 vaccine doses from COVAX arrive in Vietnam

More than 1.18 million doses of Vaxzevria COVID-19 vaccine (formerly known as AstraZeneca) from the COVAX Facility have arrived in Vietnam, UNICEF Vietnam announced on August 2.

Hanoi (VNA) - More than 1.18 million doses of Vaxzevria COVID-19 vaccine (formerly known as AstraZeneca) from the COVAX Facility have arrived in Vietnam, UNICEF Vietnam announced on August 2.

The new batch raised the total donations from the global vaccine sharing initiative to the country to more than 8.68 million doses.

Of the total number, there were about 5 million doses of Moderna from the US government and 3.68 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine. 

The latest batch was shipped from Laboratorio Universal Farma, a manufacturing facility in Spain, according to UNICEF, one of COVAX’s partners.

To date, Vietnam has administered more than 6.4 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines. As many as 659,064 people have received two full shots. 

COVAX is a global initiative between the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, UNICEF and the World Health Organisation (WHO), to ensure fair and equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines./.

WHO donates 9,000 rabies vaccine doses to Vietnam’s high-risk provinces

The post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) vaccines, valued at 100,000 USD, were delivered to the Centres for Disease Control (CDC) in the two provinces through coordination with the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology (NIHE), the Ministry of Health, and local authorities. The donation was made possible with financial support from Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance.
