More than 4,000 people joined a walk in support of traffic safety in Ho Chi Minh City on January 31.

The event was co-organised by the National Committee for Traffic Safety and the Vietnam Federation of UNESCO Associations.

This was the first in series of activities of the Commit Vietnam project to increase public awareness of civilised lifestyle and improve the image of Vietnam.

Vice Chairman of the National Committee for Traffic Safety Khuat Viet Hung said that Vietnam sees a high number of fatalities in accidents, mainly due to poor consciousness of traffic participants.

According to the Ministry of Transport, there were 25,322 traffic accidents nationwide last year, killing 8,996 people and injuring 24,417 others.-VNA
