More than 5,000 Vietnamese pupils, students and foreigners participated in the “Run for Children 2009” around the Thien Quang lake in Hanoi on November 22.

The humanitarian event, jointly held by the Embassy of Canada, the Vietnam-Canada Friendship Association, the Hanoi Union of Friendship Organisations and the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam , aims to call upon the community to support Vietnamese poor children who are suffering from cancer and heart diseases.

According to organisers, all the event proceeds this year worth 960 million VND will be handed over to the Hanoi Heart Hospital , the National Hospital of Paediatrics and the Heart Beat Vietnam.

The annual event was originated from the Terry Fox Run 2000. Over the past nine years, the event has hosted more than 37,800 participants and generated more than 2.2 billion VND. The 2008 run attracted more than 7,000 participants and raised over 500 million VND./.
