More than 53 billion VND and 1,000 tonnes of cement was raised for natural disasters prevention in Vietnam ’s central provinces in an art performance programme that was held in the southern city of Ho Chi Minh on May 8.

The programme with the theme of joining hands with central provinces for natural disaster prevention, was jointly organised by the Central Vietnam Calamities Relief Fund (the Central Vietnam Fund), the Vietnam Television and the Phuong Nam Culture Joint Stock Company.

Since its establishment in 2009, the Central Vietnam Fund received donations worth 42 billion VND from many domestic and foreign organisations, agencies, benefactors and businesses.

The Fund has used the money to build schools, health centers and houses for cultural and community activities, which also serve as storm and flood shelters for the people in the central provinces .

It also assist in planning resettlement zones for the people in flood-prone areas and provided more than 5,000 families of flood victims with foods and household commodities./.
