The Vietnamese Party and State attach great importance to overseas Vietnamese affairs as they are an inseparable part of the nation, and a vital resource, affirmed Deputy Prime Minister Truong Vinh Trong.

Deputy PM Trong made the affirmation while receiving in Hanoi on Nov. 23 a delegation of overseas Vietnamese from the US, who are attending the first conference for overseas Vietnamese held in Hanoi from Nov. 21-23.

He expressed his pleasure that despite living far way, they continue to endeavour to preserve and develop cultural identity and traditions of their homeland.

The Deputy PM recalled the past struggles for national freedom and talked about new developments in the country. He also expressed his wish that overseas Vietnamese in general and overseas Vietnamese in the US in particular continue to unite, study and work actively to contribute more to the homeland.

Overseas Vietnamese delegates expressed their joys at the national construction effort, and affirmed that they are always thinking of their country and hope the conference will become an annual event.

They also said they looked forward to more opportunities to invest and cooperate with local businesses./.
