Paintings of Hanoi's peach blossoms, the symbolic Tet flower of the North, by Nguyen Huu Khoa are being displayed at an exhibition called Dao Xuan (Spring Peach Blossoms) which opened on January 20.

According to the Hanoitimes, the oil paintings attempt to capture the colours and shapes of the peach blossoms.

Khoa is from the peach village of Phu Thuong, Tay Ho District, and his work is an attempt to render his perspective of the flowers' beauty.

Khoa has been growing peach trees at the family orchard when he was a small child. At first, he had no real interest in the trees, but as he started painting, the beauty of peach blossoms grew on him. Khoa now has a large collection of peach blossom paintings.

Peach flowers are a must-have item for northern families during the Lunar New Year, which this year falls on January 31.

The exhibition will feature 32 paintings, most of which were completed in 2013.-VNA
