The 2009 Pan-Tonkin Gulf Economic Forum opened in Nanning City , in China ’s Guangxi province on Aug. 6.

With the theme “Co-build a new China-ASEAN growth pole – expand cooperation and turn crisis into opportunities”, the speeches and reports focused on the current global financial crisis, the Pan-Tonkin Gulf cooperation and the expansion of cooperation between the Tonkin Gulf and other areas in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

The two-day event drew the participation of almost 400 Chinese and overseas representatives.

Deputy Minister of Transport Le Manh Hung headed the Vietnamese delegation, which comprised of 15 members from the ministries of foreign affairs, transport, industry-trade, planning-investment and agriculture and rural development, and the Vietnamese Institute of Social Sciences.

This was the fourth time that Guangxi province has hosted the Pan-Tonkin Gulf economic forum. The first forum was held in 2006./.
