Buddhist monks and nuns from Vietnamese pagodas in France and European countries gathered at a ceremony in Khuong Viet pagoda in Paris to commemorate the martyrs who laid down their lives to protect the national border and islands.

The ceremony, which was also attended by a crowd of Vietnamese living in France as well as French friends, is a chance for the participants to show their gratitude towards the fallen martyrs in the homeland.

Through the event, the monks also expressed the national Buddhism’s spirit and wish to join hands in consolidating the national solidarity, contributing to the nation’s defence and construction.

Venerable Thich Tinh Quang, head of the Khuong Viet pagoda, said the ceremony is also a call on the Vietnamese community to foster their unity in protecting and developing their homeland.

Meanwhile, Cao Huy Thuan – a retired university professor who presented at the event - said he is deeply touched. “It reminds us of our responsibilities and what we should do for the homeland,” he added.-VNA
