The Party Chief has underlined the important role of popularising the elections to the 13th NA and the People’s Council.
Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has underlined the important role of popularising the elections to the 13th National Assembly and the People’s Council at all levels in the 2011-16 period.

Trong, who also works as the National Assembly Chairman, chaired the second meeting of the Election Council for the 13 th National Assembly and the People’s Council at all levels in the 2011-16 term, in Hanoi on Mar. 2.

He said the popularisation and information work must contribute to helping the people see clearly the significance and importance of the elections.

The work must encourage people from all walks of life to exercise their rights and be self-conscious about selecting competent and proficient individuals for posts in the law-making body and the People’s Council, Trong said.

As Chair of the Election Council, Trong laid stress on the need to focus on competently preparing personnel for these elections.

He noted that preparations must be conducted in a law-abiding and democratic manner, to ensure both qualification and quality of the nominees.

The Vietnam Fatherland Front and its provincial and centrally run city chapters reached agreements on the structure, component and number of nominees for NA deputies at their first consultative conference.

During this meeting, the participants discussed a plan to monitor and inspect the elections to the 13 th National Assembly and the People’s Council at all levels in the 2011-16 period.

They said the monitoring and inspection work looks to ensure these elections are conducted in line with laws in a safe and thrifty manner, to elect qualified deputies who will voice the people’s will and aspirations.

The National Assembly Standing Committee and the Election Council organised teams to monitor and inspect preparatory works in localities nationwide.

Each team will be headed by the Chairman, the Deputy Chairmen, and member of the Election Council, or a member of the NA Standing Committee.

Inspection work will be carried out in three phases, with the first from March 7-18, the second from April 14 to 19 and the third from May 2-20.

The Election Council is currently aided by the sub-committee in charge of security, social order and safety during elections, the sub-committee on handling denunciations and petitions related to the elections, and the one on popularisation of the elections./.
