Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong joined four other candidates for the 13 th National Assembly in meeting with voters in Tay Ho district of Hanoi on May 9, as part of their election campaign in accordance with law.
Trong, who also doubles as Secretary of the Central Military Party Commission and Chairman of the 12 th National Assembly, and the four candidates presented their plans of action at the meeting.
The candidates promised, if elected, they would do their utmost to fulfil their tasks and contribute to renewing and improving the efficiency of the legislature’s operations.
The candidates also pledged to keep close contact with the people and inquire into their aspirations so they can make policies and laws that are suitable with the people’s desires and meet social requirements.
In his speech, Trong stressed the extremely important role and task of the 13 th National Assembly, as the international and domestic situations are forecast to see both advantages and challenges ahead.
The entire Party and people are currently sparing no efforts to implement the Resolution of the 11 th National Party Congress, accelerate the renewal process and realise the target of turning Vietnam into a modern-oriented industrialised country by 2020, he said.
The leader went on to say that to meet these requirements, the 13 th National Assembly needs to continue renovating the organisation and operation of the legislature as well as of its subordinate bodies and NA delegations.
“The first important thing is to elect to the 13 th National Assembly those who are the most worthy and have enough qualifications, professionalism and capacity to accomplish the rights and responsibilities entrusted by the people,” the Party chief noted.
The same day, other candidates for the 13 th National Assembly met with voters in Hanoi’s districts of Dong Da, Thanh Xuan, Thuong Tin, Dong Anh, Long Bien and Me Linh and Son Tay town./.
