A delegation of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) headed by Hoang Binh Quan, a member of the CPV Central Committee (CPVCC) and head of the CPVCC’s Commission for External Relations, paid a working visit to Germany and the UK from June 13-23.

The visit was made at the invitation of the Germany ’s Friedrich Elbert Stiftung (FES) and the UK Department of Foreign and Common Wealth Affairs.

During its stay in Germany, the delegation held talks with Achim Post, Deputy General Secretary of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) and Anke Fuchs, FES’s chairperson as well as working with some SPD, central committee’s agencies and FES. They also went on a fact-finding tour of several localities in Germany .

In the UK , the delegation worked with Nigel Evans, deputy chairperson of the House of Common, Jeremy Browne, Secretary of State for the Foreign and Common Wealth Affairs and Alan Duncan, Secretary of State for International Development along with representatives from other departments and agencies. They visited several research centres and universities.

During the meetings, the Vietnamese delegation informed the German and UK sides of the achievements the country has recorded during its renewal process, its socio-economic performance, the preparation for the 11 th National Party Congress and the country’s foreign policies.

For their parts, the UK and German sides praised Vietnam ’s achievements, especially those in hunger elimination and poverty alleviation.

The UK and German sides said they wish to continue to boost multi-faceted relations with Vietnam , especially in investment, trade, education and training, and official development assistance.
