General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Nguyen PhuTrong and the Vietnamese delegation arrived at Andrews military airportin Washington D.C at 8am of July 6 (local time), starting his officialvisit to the US at the invitation of the US administration.
The Party chief was welcomed at the airport by representatives of theUS government, Vietnamese Ambassador Pham Quang Vinh and crowd ofVietnamese people in the US, as well as diplomats from ASEAN countriesin the US.
This is the first time a General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam has made a visit to the US .
The visit takes place at a time important to Vietnam-US relations, asthe two countries are marking the 20th anniversary of the establishmentof diplomatic ties.
During the visit, the twocountries’ highest leaders will discuss future orientations for furtherdeveloping their bilateral relations and deepening the Vietnam-UScomprehensive partnership, with a focus on the fields of investment,trade expansion and facilitation, education-training, science-technologyand defence-security.-VNA
