Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong called on the Quan doi Nhan dan (People’s Army) newspaper to improve upon its functions and mission and adhere to its principles during his visit to the agency on October 19 on the occasion of the 65 th anniversary of its first issue (October 20, 1950).

General Secretary Trong, who is also Secretary of the Central Military Commission, asked the newspaper to be consistent but dynamic, creative and sharp-eyed to create far-reaching social effect.

In the coming time, the newspaper should continue disseminating the Party’s viewpoints and guidelines, the State’s laws, as well as the policies of the Central Military Committee and the Ministry of National Defence to soldiers and people in a vivid, comprehensive and convincing manner, he noted.

He also instructed the newspaper to focus on reflecting reality, introducing the army’s activities and promoting good experiences and examples while criticising bad behaviours and deeds and countering incorrect perceptions and viewpoints.

The Quan doi Nhan dan needs to continue bringing the images of Vietnam and the People’s Army to the international community as well as reporting on important international issues.

In order to accomplish these tasks, according to General Secretary Trong, the newspaper must develop a pool of talented journalists with firm stuff and high discipline and equip them with proper tools to meet the demands of the modern era.

The People’s Army newspaper, headquartered in Hanoi, now boasts five publications including the daily, the weekly, the Events & Witnesses magazine, the e-newspaper published in Vietnamese, English and Chinese languages, and an internal journal.-VNA
