General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam ( CPV ) Nguyen Phu Trong met with Indian National Congress Party (INCP) President Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi , India , on November 20.

The CPV leader, who is in India for a State visit, affirmed that the CPV attaches much importance to its relations with political parties in India , particularly the INCP, and considers these as an important political foundation for the relationship between the two countries.

The Vietnamese leader highly valued the accomplishments that India has achieved under the leadership of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government, in which the INCP is a key member.

He said the Vietnamese people always keep in mind valuable support from the Indian people to their struggle for independence in the past and the current national construction and development.

The General Secretary voiced his pleasure at the growing bilateral relations, including in politics, defence – security, and economics. He expressed his hope that his visit will contribute to deepening Vietnam – India strategic partnership and create a driving force for their ties in the time to come.

He suggested the two parties increase the exchange of delegations and experience in party building and country governance, as well as cooperation at multilateral forums.

For her part, Sonia Gandhi praised Vietnam ’s rapid growth, saying she believes that the CPV will lead the Vietnamese people to prosperity.

Lauding the development in the two countries’ cooperation, especially in trade and investment, she voiced his wish that Vietnam and India will bolster ties economics and information technology.

The Indian host also expressed her hope for strengthened ties and exchanges between both parties and their mass organisations along with experience sharing.

Party General Secretary Trong invited the INCP leader to visit Vietnam , and Sonia Gandhi accepted the invitation with pleasure.-VNA
