Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong met with former US President Bill Clinton at the latter's residence in New York on July 10 (local time).

Bill Clinton expressed his pleasure with the outcomes of the official visit to the US by the Vietnamese Party leader. The former US President was also delighted at the increasingly positive development between the two countries over the past 20 years.

The fine development of relations between Vietnam and the US has contributed greatly to peace, stability, cooperation and prosperity in the Asia- Pacific region, the Former US President said.

At the meeting, Party General Secretary Trong thanked Bill Clinton and his wife Hillary Clinton for their significant contributions to the normalisation of relationships and multi-faceted cooperation between Vietnam and the US over the past two decades.

The Party leader also highly valued contributions the Clinton Foundation has made in supporting Vietnam’s programs on poverty reduction, HIV/AID, solving post-war problems, healthcare development and environmental protection.-VNA
