Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong met with voters in Hanoi’s Ba Dinh and Tay Ho districts on October 6 in the run up to the eighth session of the 13th National Assembly (NA).
During the meeting, voters provided feedback on a number of issues, including safeguarding national sovereignty as well as maritime economic development, land management, agricultural development, rural areas, and improvements to farmers’ living conditions.
They also expressed their opinions on monitoring officials and rotating officials from the central level to localities.
Many voters expressed their concerns over the process of educational reform, proposing that the compilation of textbooks should be done carefully in an effort to avoid mistakes and a learning overload for pupils.
Meanwhile, it was necessary to pay more attention to vocational training in a bid to improve the quality of the work force, they said.
Anti-corruption efforts and the prevention of inefficiency were also important to voters who requested closer supervision of and clearer responsibilities for the leaders of State agencies.
Appreciating the voters’ opinions, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong noted that during the eighth session, the NA would question the leaders of ministries and sectors, whilst conducting votes of confidence for all posts elected and approved by the NA.
He said boosting the maritime economy in combination with the protection of sea and islands was a matter of strategic importance. A master plan for maritime economic growth has been developed, while investments have been allocated for implementation, he noted.
Regarding agricultural development, the Party leader affirmed that it was part of the national industrialisation and modernisation process. Accordingly, the sector would be supported to in its transitions towards large-scale agriculture with the application of advanced technology to increase productivity.
At the same time, the Party chief highlighted the significance of personnel training and capacity development for central officials, with periods spent working in different localities constituting a crucial part of training and providing practical experience.
Emphasising the determination to prevent and combat corruption and financial wastefulness, he said a more effective and comprehensive legal system would be applied.
He also acknowledged the policy of listing officials’ assets as an effective mechanism to fight corruption.-VNA
