Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong received in Hanoi on Nov. 1 the leadership of the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol), headed by President Khoo Boon Hui, who are attending the 80th Interpol General Assembly gathering in Hanoi.

General Secretary Trong highly appreciated the vital role of Interpol in the fight against transnational crimes and expressed his pleasure at results of cooperation between Interpol and member countries, including Vietnam .

The leader stressed that the Vietnamese Party and State always attach importance to the task to fight crimes and coordinate with international police forces. He affirmed that as a member of Interpol , Vietnam will create favourable conditions for Vietnamese police to cooperate closely with Interpol to effectively fight transnational crimes.

The Vietnamese Party leader asked Interpol to continue helping Vietnam to raise its capacity in fighting crimes in the new situation.

Khoo Boon Hui informed the Vietnamese Party leader about Interpol operations and the 80th General Assembly of Interpol, which is being held under the theme, “Connecting police for a safer world - Strong partnerships, innovation and building capacity” to discuss possibilities for crime prevention cooperation, especially hi-tech crime and piracy and improving capacity of crime prevention.

Khoo Boon Hui said that the largest-ever meeting drew nearly 1,000 deputies from 142 countries and Interpol received thoughtful assistance from host Vietnam while obtaining positive results during the first two days./.
