The Permanent Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee, Truong Tan Sang, has called on the procuracy branch to develop the judicial system into the one of transparency, democracy and a safeguard of justice and human rights.
Sang, also a Party Politburo member, made the call at a meeting held by the Supreme People’s Procuracy in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue on January 11.
He urged procuracy officials to follow the Party’s guidelines in investigating and conducting lawsuits.
“It is important to improve prosecution work, especially the quality of procuracy officials' performance during proceedings,” Sang said.
He emphasised the need to expand international relations, improve staffs’ professional capacity and increase the sector’s international image based on the Party and State’s external policy.
In 2009, procuracy agencies prosecuted over 66,000 cases, including a number of trials against national security and sovereignty violators as well as corruptions.
On this occasion, the State President conferred high honours for a number of units and individuals working in the procurary system./.
