The Party, State, National Assembly and Government leaders on August 24 visited and presented gifts to General Vo Nguyen Giap on his 100 th birthday (Aug. 25, 1911-2011).
Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong extended best wishes to General Giap, the eldest brother of the Vietnam People’s Army and an excellent student of President Ho Chi Minh, who was loved and admired by people nationwide and international friends.
The Party leader presented the General with a basket of lotus as a symbol of the beauty and vitality of the Vietnamese nation, affirming that the whole Party, army and people always respected and remembered his great contributions to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation.
State President Truong Tan Sang and Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung presented flowers and wished General Giap good health and longevity. They expressed hope that the General will continue his devotion to the revolutionary cause of the nation.
Congratulating the world famous general and national hero on his 100 th birthday, NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung offered the NA badge to the General, showing the NA’s respect for the eldest brother of the Vietnam People’s Army.
The leaders promised the General that they will do their utmost together with the whole Party, army and people to overcome difficulties and challenges to successfully implement the Resolution of the 11 th National Party Congress.
On the same day, Defence Minister General Phung Quang Thanh and Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Pham Quang Nghi visited General Giap on his 100 th birthday.
On the occasion, some publishing houses have launched books on General Vo Nguyen Giap, including the Youth Publishing House with a book entitled, “Vo Nguyen Giap – A hundred-year spirit”; the Kim Dong Publishing House with a pictorial entitled, “General Vo Nguyen Giap, a century - two protracted wars”; and the National Political Publishing House with a book entitled, “General, Commander-in-Chief Vo Nguyen Giap with Vietnamese history”./.
