In Hanoi, many organisations, agenciesand schools have organised activities in response to the day. The city’sRed Cross Society reported that more than 40,000 units of blood werecollected in the first three months of this year.

Meanwhile,nearly 1,200 people, including public servants, workers, soldiers andstudents in the northern province of Son La gathered at a meetingcalling for voluntary blood donation on April 6.

Theevent, jointly held by the provincial Steering Committee of BloodDonation Mobilisation and Son La’s Red Cross Society, collectedalmost 1 00 units of blood.

The Committee plans to organise eight campaigns in 2014, in a bid to collect at least 1,500 units of blood.

Last year, the province held seven campaigns, attracting over 1,500 donors and collected more than 1,200 units of blood.

In northern Ha Nam province, the voluntary blood donation movement has spread wide and far with positive achievements.

Last year, Ha Nam collected over 4,600 units, up more than 1,000 onesthan the target set for the year. In the first three months of thisyear, the province also received 3,760 units.

The remains of 12 Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts, who laid down their lives in different periods in Laos’ Savannakhet province, were repatriated following a handover ceremony on May 21. They will be re-buried at the Road 9 National Martyrs Cemetery in Vietnam's central province of Quang Tri on May 22.

Nghe An reburies martyrs' remains repatriated from Laos

Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Phung Thanh Vinh said that carrying a noble international duty, many Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts heroically joined Lao people in their struggle for national liberation and independence. Many of them sacrificed their lives in the country, including more than 12,000 soldiers laying down in the three provinces of Xaysomboun, Vientiane, and Xiangkhouang.

19 localities eradicate substandard houses
