The State leader said at a ceremony in Hanoi on July 26, that the strategy for judicial reforms until 2020 calls for a transparent, democratic and strict system of justice which is taking steps to modernise to protect ordinary people’s rights and safeguard the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
“The judicial sector should therefore constantly overhaul itself and take the initiative in the struggle against crime, which safeguards Socialist legislation and ensures political security and public order,” Triet emphasised.
He urged the sector to focus on improving the quality of its staff that carry out prosecutions and supervise judicial operations, from investigations to trials in court.
These steps are necessary to avoid offenders escaping prosecution or punishing innocent people, said the State leader, urging the Supreme People’s Procuracy to take a firm line on crimes concerning corruption.
The top judicial officer, Tran Quoc Vuong, reported at the ceremony that his agency has helped the National Assembly and Government to recover hundreds of billions of VND to State coffers.
He added that the procuracy has also helped to bring numerous criminal cases to justice, helping to enforce socio-economic management.
The people’s procuracy has been awarded the Ho Chi Minh Order twice and a number of its locations and individual staff members have been conferred with the Labour Order since its foundation on July 26, 1960./.
