A party politburo member has requested that local authorities across the country attach importance to the participation of grassroots people in building a new lifestyle in rural areas.

At a conference to review activities of the National Steering Committee on Building Pilot New Model of Rural Area in Hanoi on June 28, Truong Tan Sang, who is also permanent member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat, emphasised the need for relevant agencies to make their work clear to the people and ensure the people have their say in all aspects under the motto “the people know the people do, the people supervise, and the people reap the benefits.”

The scheme, first conducted in 11 pilot communes, is aimed at building modern and civilised rural areas which will see economic growth, living condition improvement and a modern socio-economic infrastructure.

According to the steering committee, within the first half of this year, the target localities have mobilised capital from various sources to carry out infrastructure projects, initially making improvements in production conditions, living conditions and cultural life of the people./.
