The third percussion festival, themed Cracking Bamboo, will be held in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City in early October, the Goethe Institute Hanoi announced on Sept. 26.

Music bands joining the festival will present themselves at a concert at the Goethe Institute on Oct. 6.
This year’s festival sees the participation of 31 artists from Germany , Belgium , Canada , France , Mongolia , Myanmar , the Republic of Korea , Thailand and Vietnam .

Before coming to Hanoi , the percussionists will gather for one week in Bangkok for workshops and master classes at the Mahidol University Salaya. The jointly composed musical programme will be presented at a concert in Thailand on Oct. 5 and again in Hanoi on Oct. 7 and Ho Chi Minh City on Oct. 10.

Six Vietnamese artists will play the percussion and traditional instruments, such as monochord and T’rung, a musical instrument of Central Highlanders, at the festival.

The festival will feature the combination of western and Asian traditional musical instruments as well as music and art performances.

“Cracking Bamboo“ was carried out for the first time in 2008 with more than 40 musicians.-VNA
