An arch of the Phap Van overpass, part of the Thanh Tri Bridge project crossing the Linh Dam urban area and Giai Phong-Phap Van intersection, collapsed on April 18.

Nguyen Duc Y, director of Bridge Company No 7 under the Thang Long Construction Corporation, said that girders which were used in the bridge piles at the end of 2009 had buckled.

The collapse in the afternoon left no casualties, but an estimated 600 million VND (31,500 US $ ) worth of damage was done.

The company is studying the cause of the collapse and it would try to not affect the progress of the construction which was expected to finish in August, Y said./.
