– Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, on March 9, named Undersecretary for Policy at the Department of Foreign Affairs Enrique Manalo as new acting secretary.

Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella said that Manalo is in charge of the foreign body until the President appoints a new secretary.

He said Manalo is an excellent transition man, who has dealt with many crucial issues with the former Secretary Perfecto Yasay.

The replacement came one day after the Senate unanimously turned down Perfecto Yasay’s appointment over his controversial US citizenship and his failure to disclose this in a timely manner.

He is the first official of the Duterte administration rejected by the Senate.-VNA
