Hanoi (VNA) – Spokesperson of the Philippine President Salvador Panelo said on September 20 that President Rodrigo Duterte has named Lieutenant General Noel Clement as new Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
Clement, 55, current Commander of the AFP Central Command, will replace General Benjamin Madrigal, who will retire on September 21 as he reaches the mandatory retirement age of 56.
Clement will officially assume the post on September 24.
As a member of the Philippine Military Academy's Sandiwa Class of 1985, Clement served as chief of the Philippine Army’s 10th Infantry Division before leading the Central Command, which covers parts of Soccskargen and Davao region, hometown of President Duterte./.
