About half a million Filipinos have been evacuated from their homes as devastating super typhoon Hagupit is forecast to land on the country’s eastern region on December 6.

Corazon Soliman from the Ministry of Development and Social Welfate said evacuations were carried out by the Home Affairs and local governments due to fear from the cyclone’s impacts.

According to the Philippine weather bureau PAGASA, typhoon Hagupit is going to slam into Eastern or Northern Samar provinces on December 6 evening. The storm is packing winds of 195 kilometres per hour compared to the previous forecast of 215 kph.

Part of the Philippines are still recovering from typhoon Haiyan, one of the biggest cyclones hitting the country, which killed 7,000 people in central provinces and left millions homeless.-VNA
