The Philippines has set the target of 6.8 million international arrivals in 2014 following EU lift of embargo on the country’s air carriers.

The figure represents a 24 percent increase against this year’s target of 5.5 million. The country is also aiming for 10 million international arrivals in 2016.

Secretary of Tourism Ramon Jimenez said that EU’s permission for Philippines ’ leading airline PAL to resume flights to Europe will benefit the country’s tourism.

Foreign arrivals to the Philippines in the first five month of this year surpassed 2 million including nearly 214,000 arrivals from European countries, up 8.5 percent against last year’s same period.-VNA
