Hanoi (VNA) – Philippine authorities announced on July 6 that they had found a black box of an Air Force plane that crashed on Jolo island in Sulu province two days ago, killing more than 50 people.

The pilot in command, who had several years of experience flying C-130 aircraft, was among the dead victims, Military Chief Cirilito Sobejana told Reuters news agency.

The C-130 military plane with over 90 aboard missed the runway on the island of Jolo and crashed into nearby Patikul village at 11:30am (local time) on July 4.

The soldiers on the flight had just completed military training and deployed to the southern islands to combat terrorism.

Defence Minister Delfil Lorenzana on July 5 requested an investigation into the accident.

This is the country's worst military air disaster in around 30 years./.
