Philippine President Benigno Aquino on May 26 stated that the Philippines was ready to help solve the Thailand-Cambodia border dispute.

President Aquino told reporters following a meeting with Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva in Bangkok that the Philippines would send observers to help ease the dispute if required by Thailand and Cambodia.

Meanwhile, the Cambodian Ministry of Defence on May 26 refuted the information that the country would convene the 8 th General Border Committee (GBC) meeting, saying that the information went against the spirit of the agreement reached by the Cambodian, Thai and Indonesian Foreign Ministers in Jakarta on May 9.

Earlier, the Thai media quoted Thai Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwan as saying the GBC meeting would be held in Cambodia after a group of Indonesian observers arrive at the disputed area between Thailand and Cambodia near Preah Vihear Temple./.
