Philippines reports 10 more Zika cases

Health Secretary Paulyn Ubial said new Zika cases were reported in Iloilo province in the central Philippines, Bacoor city of Cavite province, Mandaluyong city, Calamba city of Laguna province, Antipolo city of Rizal province, and the cities of Las Pinas, Muntinlupa, Cebu, Quezon, Makati, Caloocan, and Manila.
The health department advised Filipinos to stick to the “4S strategy” to combat the mosquito-borne virus – search and destroy the breeding places of Aedes aegypti mosquitos, seek early consultation, self-protective measures, and say no to indiscriminate fogging.
First detected in Africa, Zika virus then spread to Asia and Latin America. The World Health Organisation said Zika has been reported in 73 countries and territories, most seriously in South America.
Zika is acquired through bites from infected Aedes aegypti mosquitos with such common symptoms as fever, conjunctivitis, headdache, joint pains and skin rash. So far there is no available vaccine to prevent this virus.-VNA
