Phnom Penh (VNA) - Phnom Penh Governor Khuong Sreng has said that the vaccination campaign against COVID 19 in the capital city will be completed on July 8, while all people aged 18 and over will be vaccinated.

He made the statement at a video conference with officials of the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, and 14 Khan authorities under the Phnom Penh Capital Administration on the evening of June 8.

“For Phnom Penh, we will complete the vaccination against COVID 19 by July 8, and after that, under the guidance of Prime Minister Hun Sen, will bring the vaccines to people in other provinces in order to help all the citizens escape COVID 19," he noted.

As of June 8, over 1.5 million Cambodian in Phnom Penh received two shots of COVID-19 vaccine. The vaccines used in the country include Sinovac, Sinopharm and AstraZeneca. 

The Cambodian Ministry of Health reported that the country logged 729 new COVID-19 cases and 11 related deaths on June 9, raising the total numbers to 36,240 and 289, respectively.

PM Hun Sen has ordered halting the commune/ward council elections, scheduled for June 20, over fear of the complicated developments of COVID-19. He emphasised that Cambodia's current priority is fighting the COVID-19 epidemic./.
