The exhibition, opened in Hanoi on December 7, forms part of the international conference on strengthening women’s role in building and sustaining peace: from commitments to results, from December 7-9.
In his opening remarks, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung said the settlement of bomb and mine aftermath, especially in the post-conflict environment, is one of the priorities set by Vietnam in its role of a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the 2020-2021 tenure, with the aim of sharing experience and contributing to international efforts in this regard, for peace, security, stability and development.
The settlement work requires not only national efforts and international cooperation, but also the involvement of all forces, he said, adding that women have played a significant role in this sphere.
The exhibition is set to draw more international attention and resources for the settlement of bomb and mine consequences in Vietnam, promote women’s role, and create a momentum for the settlement of bomb and mine aftermath in service of post-conflict reconstruction at the UNSC in April 2021 when Vietnam assumes the UNSC presidency for the second time in the 2020-2021 tenure./.
