Phu Yen provides free heart defect screenings for needy kids

Phu Yen (VNA)– The Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs of central Phu Yenprovince teamed up with Tam Duc Heart Hospital to provide free screening testson congenital heart defects for local needy children on April 9.

About 500 poorchildren under 16 were offered examination. The children’s families will be guidedto apply for support from the Fund for Vietnamese Children of Phu Yen, HCMCity’s Sponsoring Association for Poor Patients, the Children Action or theGovernment as they cannot afford surgery.

Phu Yen hasfinancially supported heart surgeries for underprivileged children since 2003.

According to DeputyDirector of the provincial Department of Labour, Invalids and Social AffairsPham Thi Minh Hien, the province offers free screening tests for about 500 poorchildren every year.- VNA
