A Lao Airlines plane crashed into Mekong River in Laos on October 16, killing all 47 on board, according to the Lao news agency KPL, which added that the figure was yet to be confirmed by authorities.
The ATR 233 aircraft was on the way from capital Vientiane to the southern Pakse city. It was hit by a strong wind when it was about to land, said KPL. It quoted an eyewitness as saying that the plan was then found underwater at Don Kho Island , where road access is impossible.
Turbulent weather was said to be main reason for the crash.
The Lao government and airline officials have not made any comment about the accident.
The Chinese news agency Xinhua said there were two Chinese nationals on the flight.
Operating since 1976, the national carrier Lao Airlines is now operating seven domestic routes and international flights to China , Cambodia , Thailand , Vietnam and Singapore . It transported 658,000 passengers last year.-VNA
