A play entitled “Mummy, I’m growing up” will be staged by the Youth Theatre with the help of the International Labour Organisation in mid-June in response to the World Day against Child Labour on June 12.

The play is the story of a rural girl who abandons her studies to go to the city to work as a maid for a wealthy family. She brings her aspirations of a bright future and happiness. However, her dream slowly fades as she faces urban life, the relationship between master and servant, and prejudices in society. She longs to return home and live a normal life with the love of her parents.

The drama aims to educate and raise the awareness of its audience to end child labour. At the same time, it also urges adults and society as a whole to act for the country’s future generations.-VNA
