Players find the going too tough at Vietnam Open

Following repeated defeats, the countryhas no players in the single's events after the second round matches onDecember 5. In the men's singles, Nguyen Dinh Tuan Kiet and Pham CaoCuong, the only home players in the second round, failed to cope withthe power and skills of their opponents and quickly lost their matches.

While Kiet lost to sixth seed Son Wan Ho of theRepublic of Korea 21-11, 21-12 after just one half hour, Cuong was alsooutplayed by third seed Chan Yan Kit of Hong Kong in only 30 minutes.

In the women's singles, young hopeful Le Thu Huyenshowed that she had all the makings of a future star with a fightingperformance against seventh seed Hsu Ya Ching of Chinese Taipei.

After losing the first set at 21-18, Huyen fought back to win thesecond set 21-15 to level the match, but in the decisive match, Hsubettered Huyen to clinch the set at 21-17 and seal the match.

Not only did singles players perform poorly, but players in the doubles events failed to match up to their counterparts.

In the men's doubles, the country also does not have anyrepresentatives, as duo Duong Bao Duc and Nguyen Hoang Nam succumbed tothe Malaysian pair, Chooi Kah Ming and Teo Ee Yi, in straight sets21-15, 21-19.

Meanwhile, top seeds continued showing their power by torturing their opponents to march to the next round.

Top-seeded Alamsyah Yunus of Indonesia easily beat Soong Joo Ven ofMalaysia to reach the third round, while the second ranked Tan ChunSeang of Malaysia, also had an easy win over Chavapat Tochareonbodee ofThailand.-VNA
