Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has recently signed a decision detailing the establishment of a National Wage Council.

The council, which is headed by Deputy Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs Pham Minh Huan, is in charge of analysing the country’s socio-economic situation and living standards to identify and forecast the subsistence level of employees and their families.

It is also tasked to evaluate the regional implementation of minimum wage and wage levels in the labor market as well as businesses’ payment capacity in order to develop and suggest the Government on the regional minimum wage annually and periodically.

It will also study and suggest the Government about the minimum wage per hour for irregular and part-time jobs, while reviewing and evaluating the regional categorisation in applying the minimum wage for proposing the Government on appropriate adjustments and supplements.

The council has three vice presidents, namely Vice Chairman of the Viet Nam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL) Mai Duc Chinh, Vice President of the Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry Pham Gia Tuc and Vice President of the Union of Vietnamese Cooperatives Nguyen Van Bien.

The council’s members include representatives from the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, VGCL, the Viet Nam Association of Small and Medium Enterprises and central professional employer associations.-VNA
