Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung joined many State and government leaders from other countries at the State funeral for former Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew on March 29.

Writing on the funeral book, Prime Minister Dung extended the deepest sympathy to the People’s Action Party, State, Government and people of Singapore and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong’s family in particular.

He said Lee Kuan Yew is a prominent leader and strategist of not only Singapore but also the world, and a close friend of Vietnamese people.

The Vietnamese leader expressed his hope that the former Prime Minister’s heritage will be preserved by generations of Singaporean people.

Later on the day, Prime Minister Dung met briefly with Singaporean President Tony Tan and leaders of ASEAN countries and other nations who were in Singapore for the funeral.

Lee Kuan Yew passed away early on March 23 at the age of 91. He was the founding Prime Minister of Singapore and father of the current Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. He has been widely credited with turning Singapore into one of the most affluent economies in Asia within three decades.-VNA
