Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has welcomed the presence of foreign police forces at the ceremony to mark the 65th anniversary of the Vietnam People’s Public Security, describing the attendance as not only a symbol of friendship and cooperation, but also the fine sentiment of their countries’ people along with the Vietnamese people.

He attributed the Vietnamese police force’s strength and development to the cooperation and support from international friends while receiving the foreign delegates in Hanoi on August 17.

The PM spoke of effective prevention from and struggle against transnational crimes, terrorism, high-tech crime, and drug and human trafficking by law enforcement agencies in recent years. The results showed close cooperation between countries, contributing to maintaining security and order in each country as well as peace and stability in the region and the world.

PM Dung informed the head delegates about the 43 rd ASEAN ministerial meeting and related meetings in Vietnam last month during which ASEAN and its dialogue countries discussed a broad range of issues and reached a high degree of consensus, affirming their common goals and aspirations of peace, stability and cooperation.

He said he wished for continued cooperation and support from foreign countries with the Vietnamese People’s Public Security as well as cooperation between governments.

Stronger international integration has offered more opportunities and challenges for nations, he said, urging the need to accelerate and strengthen multilateral and bilateral cooperation in counter-crime and counter-terrorism among security, interior, police and intelligence agencies as well as between ASEAN and its dialogue partners.

He also urged the agencies in ASEAN to propose measures to improve cooperation in the region.

The PM also expressed a wish that other countries would regularly exchange delegations to share experiences and help each other in personnel training, and to promote the signing of multilateral and bilateral cooperation documents that would create a legal pathway for long-lasting cooperation in the fight against crime.

He asked the countries to build a mechanism of information sharing to solve issues for cooperation in crime control in a timely manner.

On behalf of the head delegates, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Affairs Sar Kheng agreed with Prime Minister Dung’s opinions, saying they are quite consistent and in line with the benefits of all countries.

Deputy PM Sar Kheng said he believed in promoting strong cooperation in the fight against transnational crime./.
