Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad paid an official visit to Viet Nam on August 26-28 at the invitation of Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

This is the first official visit to Viet Nam by PM Mahathir since he was reelected as Prime Minister of Malaysia in May 2018.

An official ceremony was solemnly held at the Presidential Palace to welcome the Malaysian PM. Shortly after the welcome ceremony, PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc held talks with PM Mahathir Mohamad.

PM Mahathir Mohamad spoke highly of significant achievements that Viet Nam achieved in the national construction and development, which helped raise the country’s role and position in the region and the world.

The two sides agreed to increase the exchange of high-level visits as well as regular exchanges at various levels; accelerate cooperation through channels, especially through Party and parliamentary channels; and maintain and bring into full play bilateral cooperation mechanisms./.
