Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung praised the traditional friendship and cooperation between Slovakia and Vietnam during his meeting with the Justice Minister of the Slovak Republic Tomas Borec on March 11.

The PM lauded the results of the meeting between the two justice ministers and said the visit by minister Borec contributed to promoting the two countries’ relationship.

He highlighted that Vietnam and Slovakia have had a long traditional relationship and confirmed that Vietnam has not forgotten the precious support and assistance Slovakia gave Vietnam during its struggle for independence.

The Party, State, Government and people of Vietnam are continually willing to preserve and enhance its cooperation with Slovakia in economics, commerce, investment, science, defence and security, and culture and education.

The PM expressed his hope that the two justice ministries will increase working group exchanges to share practical experience in improving legal systems and enhancing legislation introduction and approval processes.

The Vietnamese PM took the occasion to send an invitation to the Slovak Prime Minister to visit Vietnam and discuss measures to further develop the friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

Minister Borec thanked the PM for receiving him and expressed his delight with the outcomes from his working visit to Vietnam, especially in issues relating to justice reform and drafting legal documents.

While confirming cooperation promotion with Vietnam, Borec spoke highly of the existing cooperation between the two countries in various fields, especially economics and defence and security.

During an earlier talks with the Vietnamese Ministry of Justice, Minister Borec and Minister Ha Hung Cuong signed a two-year cooperation programme agreement.

Among cooperation activities included in the programme are law training and education, the application of conventions of the La Hay conference on international justice, and the provision of legal assistance to ensure citizens’ legal rights and interests.

The programme is a step towards fulfilling commitments stipulated in a Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2014 in Bratislava.

The two ministers also informed each other on law and justice reforms and discussed areas of expertise in law enforcement.
