On the East Sea issue, the diplomat reiterated France’s stance on supporting international law compliance, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.

France strongly backs the ratification of the European Union – Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and the EU – Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA), he said, adding that his country is pushing for the early ratification of the two agreements and hopes to partner with Vietnam in the fields of national defence and security.

He said the French Development Agency (AFD) has invested in many projects in Vietnam, recently an environment project, contributing to delivering on commitments under the Paris Agreement.

France is also keen to continue boosting collaboration with Vietnam across education, health care, e-government, and stepping up several projects in Hanoi to improve air quality, infrastructure, environment and culture, the diplomat said.

PM Phuc, for his part, thanked France for its support to Vietnam in pushing forward the European Parliament’s ratification of EVFTA and EVIPA. He suggested France promptly complete the adoption of the two agreements to materialise benefits for parties concerned.

The Government leader expressed his belief that close liaison between the two countries will continue making practical contributions to world peace and security.

The PM thanked France for helping the Vietnamese Government with building the national public services portal and launching e-government, as well as climate change response projects in the country.

He further said Vietnam is willing to cooperate with France in fields of its strength, including in aviation.
