PM urges tax sector to streamline procedures

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has asked the taxation sector to focus on reducing troublesome procedures in tax payment and impose strict punishments on officers who harass the people and businesses.

At a working session with key leaders of the General Department ofTaxation in Hanoi on July 9, the Government leader acknowledged thesector’s efforts to carry out administrative reform and improved staffcapacity.

However, he stressed that much remains tobe done, particularly in tax management, such as great losses in taxcollection and cumbersome administrative procedures.

The amount of time needed for preparing and paying tax in Vietnam isthe largest in the region, PM Dung said, adding that many tax officershave intentionally causing trouble to tax payers.

“These are very serious problems that the sector must pay specialattention to and take specific and effective measures to solve,” hesaid.

The PM urged the sector to continue revisingtax regulations to allow people and businesses to pay their tax in thequickest and most convenient way while eliminating legal loopholes toprevent tax losses.

According to the sector’sreports, in the first half of 2014, tax collection fulfilled nearly 54percent of the estimates and saw a year-on-year increase of 14.5percent.-VNA

In particular, the Politburo recently issued Resolution No. 23-NQ/TW on overseas Vietnamese affairs, General Secretary and President To Lam, emphasising that in the time ahead, the Party and State will continue to improve institutions, and adopt comprehensive, open and breakthrough mechanisms and policies to connect with, attract and effectively mobilise the resources of overseas Vietnamese, particularly intellectuals, experts, entrepreneurs, scientists and young people.

Top Vietnamese leader meets Russian Communist Party chief
