Vienna (VNA) - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc met with representatives of the Union of Vietnamese Association in Europe (UVAE) and the Vietnamese Association in the Czech Republic (VAC) in Vienna, Austria, on October 15.
The UVAE was set up in October 2016, aiming to connect Vietnamese associations in European countries.
At the meeting, PM Phuc applauded efforts and achievements of the UVAE and the VAC with various activities held in host countries, and urged them to encourage Vietnamese abroad to abide by local laws and support each other.
The leader said he will assign relevant ministries and agencies to step up measures to improve the efficiency of Vietnamese language teaching and learning among overseas Vietnamese, thus contributing to preserving traditional culture and enhancing solidarity between Vietnamese expatriates.
Nguyen Duy Nhien, a UVAE member and VAC President, said large-scale activities launched by the association have been spread in European countries. Besides, the association has organised a range of activities in support of the homeland.
PM Phuc, his spouse and a high-ranking delegation of Vietnam arrived in Vienna in the afternoon of October 14 (local time), beginning an official visit to Austria at the invitation of his Austrian counterpart Sebastian Kurz.
Austria is the first stop of the PM during his trip to Europe, during which he will also pay official visit to Belgium and Denmark, make a working visit to the European Union and attend the 12th ASEM Summit (ASEM 12) and the Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 Summit (P4G).-VNA
